Robin has been practicing psychotherapy in Portland for 20 years. Initially trained as a child and family therapist in the psychodynamic tradition, she has expanded and deepened her knowledge and training over the years in Gestalt therapy theory, contemporary psychoanalysis, Collaborative Couples Therapy (Dan Wile, PhD) and anthroposophy. During the past several years Robin has combined her life-long passion, artistic painting, with her enthusiasm for the therapeutic relationship and offers curative painting as a treatment option. Robin uses her skills drawn from these rich traditions and offers a dynamic, compassionate and individualized approach in working with her clients.
Exploring your inner life through painting...

Many of us strive to live consciously with awareness of ourselves and our impact on others and our environment. Utilizing an artistic activity can be a powerful yet gentle way to engage a person’s whole being. In art there is a mobilization of energy and emotion in action, when awareness comes forth in the process of the act itself. Wet-on-wet watercolor painting lends itself to this process.

This mode of painting allows form to emerge out color, similar to how the newly realized person emerges out of the psychotherapy process. One does not need to have any skills or talent in this area, only an openness and willingness to experience something new.

And developing yourself further through psychotherapy...

Gestalt therapy theory has its foundation in phenomenology and existential philosophy, the dialogic method, and field theory. Embedded in this particular approach to relational psychotherapy is respect and reverence for an individual’s natural creative adjustments to life and to what is created between two beings.
Therapy with Children and Teens

Imagination and creativity contribute to children's development and vitality. Play and artwork tap into and stimulate these capacities as children work through challenges.

In addition to the art studio children have a designated playroom in which they can safely express and explore their feelings. With her warmth and gentle caring, Robin supports each child and family in working through fears, loses, depression, anxiety and trauma.

Periodically a group for children going through divorce is offered to augment individual therapy. Separate sessions with parents and other caregivers is an important and necessary part of the process, keeping the child's sessions confidential. Sometimes family sessions are indicated as well.

Teens, too, can utilize the playroom or sit comfortably on the couch to talk and explore their concerns. And the art supplies are available as well.
